MONTANA RIVER LODGE
FLY FISHING AT ITS BEST!
Fly fish Montana's best Rivers. The Gallatin River is Montana's best kept secret! We have 17 years experience guiding fly fishers on this premium water. We also fish the world famous Madison, Jefferson, and Yellowstone Rivers. We use comfortable Driftboats, and large fish are caught and released on dry, nymph, and streamer patterns.
Montana River Lodge is located close to the Gallatin River yet is very accessible to the Belgrade and Bozeman area, for all the amenities that are available. The Lodge itself is very comfortable and offers 1st class accomodations, and meals. We are geared to host families, and we have horses, and a small petting zoo.
The Lodge is located in Southwest Montana, North of Yellowstone Park. With all the advantages of being near the rivers, and near town, it is also possible to be in Yellowstone Park in less than 2 hours.
Also in the area are Lewis & Clark Caverns, the Missouri River Headwaters area, and the famous Museum of the Rockies.
There are many opportunities for the Non-Angler, or if you just want to take a break from fishing. The beautiful mountains of Southwest Montana are all around the Gallatin Valley, and are easy to reach with a short drive. We also offer Photographic Safaris by Boat, or 4x4. These can be taken by advance booking.
MAKE YOUR MONTANA STAY A 1ST CLASS ADVENTURE!
WE WANT YOUR FLY FISHING ADVENTURE TO BE THE BEST IT CAN POSSIBLY BE!
In the Month of May, we fish the Madison River because it has consistent flows from the dam. We are usually able to fish some of the other rivers before high water also. There are some early Mayfly hatches on the Madison in May. (baetis) Also, the Salmon Flies are getting ready to hatch, and are present in the nymph stage. Nymph and streamer flies are very productive. Caddis Flys also start showing up May through June and the Elk Hair Caddis is the Fly of choice during these prolific hatches. The Lower Madison is one of our favorite places in the spring. July marks a change on the rivers. The Gallatin and the Yellowstone are coming back into shape after the runoff. Spring has finally given way to summer on the freestone rivers, and Mayfly, Caddis, and Salmon Fly hatches provide some great Dry fly action. Big streamer flys also produce some large Browns and Rainbow. The weather is usually nice, the fishing is great. July is good. August is also a great month. The water is a little lower, and the good holding water more well defined. Hatches are still occuring, and the Hoppers have showed up. This makes for some very fun fishing with large Dry flies, (that you can actually see!) and the action lasts all day. If you like to fish for really big fish, the deep holding water can be plumbed with large nymphs and streamer patterns and you can photograph some amazing fish. September marks another change on the rivers as Summer gives way to Fall. The big streamers are the rule, and big fish the catch. All the rivers are good as the Browns are begining their spawning run. Some sporadic hatches do occur for the dry fly fisher, and hoppers still produce. September through October is probably the most beautiful time to visit Montana as the fall colors are breathtaking. Needless to say, bring your camera. You will not be disappointed!
